Active drifts, 2002
Walking down the street looking for little unused
spaces.
They don't seem to be useful, are just standing, disappearing of
our everyday life. I chose to show them as a liberty space that
makes for the diversity of the public space arrangement.
I made those places exist by appropriating them regularly.
First I observed them, drew, took photos, measured and localized
them on a map. Then I acted directly there by choosing a specific
action: cleaning, painting, planting...
Because acting, I created a kind of private place. So, for the people,
I was a citizen who took care of "their" public space.
I was also asking my colleagues: are artists more useful for society
when they are cleaning the street than when they are painting closed
in their workshop?
To discover this work today, there
are videos, maps and pictures that can be exhibited
and also a publication.
